James Mattis, Mark Esper Speak Out Against President Trump

Multiple leaders spoke out yesterday against President Trump’s recent actions. Most notably, was that of former Defense Secretary James Mattis who said “Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people. Does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership.” Mattis speaking out against the president and his recent actions in such a harsh way came as a major shock, especially since he also implied the president is violating citizens constitutional rights. Furthermore, current Defense Secretary Mark Esper also publicly stated he does not support sending active military soldiers to cities across the nation in order to subdue protests. He said that should only be used as a last resort and “we are not in one of those situations now.” It’s reported no one was made aware of the contents of Esper’s speech prior to and it’s unclear where he stands with the president now.
