“Central Park Karen” Under Investigation by NYC Commission on Human Rights

An investigation has been launched into the Central Park dog leash incident that took place on Monday. Amy cooper, who was given the nickname “Central Park Karen”, called police on Christian Cooper, and told them “an African American man was threatening her life”. In reality, Christian was only asking Amy to leash her dog, which was required in the area of the park they were in. Christian took a video of the incident and since then, it went viral, Amy has lost her job, her dog, and may be banned from the park for life.
Furthermore, the New York City Commission on Human Rights has now launched an investigation into the event. The Deputy Commissioner of the Law Enforcement Bureau there said, “Efforts to intimidate black people by threatening to call law enforcement draw on a long, violent and painful history, and they are unacceptable.” Amy has been asked to fully cooperate and may have to pay compensatory damages to the victim, which includes emotional distress.
