Woman Calls 911 on Black Man Who Asked Her to Leash Her Dog

A video went viral yesterday of a white woman calling the police on a black man after he asked her to leash her dog. Amy Cooper was walking her dog in a wooded area of Central Park otherwise known as the Ramble. Christian Cooper, who is not related to Amy, was bird watching in the same area at the time. A dispute broke out between the two since leashes are required at all times in that area. Christian remained calm and began filming the increasingly panicked Amy who calls 911 to report “an African American man was threatening her life.” The whole time she can be seen grabbing onto her dog’s collar who is visibly distressed from being choked. When officers responded, both Amy and Christian had left and no arrests were made. Amy has since publicly apologized saying she was alone and scared at the time. She added the video has ruined her life. This includes having to surrender her dog to the same shelter he was adopted from years earlier. She was also placed on administrative leave by her employer.
