U.S. states reopening for Memorial Day weekend may have proven to be extremely dangerous. To start, Chicago experienced their deadliest Memorial Day weekend in four years. At least nine people were killed and 27 injured in shootings that occurred over the weekend. Among those killed was a 16-year-old boy who was walking down a street when a man approached him and opened fire. Two 15-year-olds were also injured in separate shooting-related incidences. The state of Illinois is still under stay-at-home orders until the end of the month. However, this did not stop residents from going outside to celebrate the weekend. Similar scenes could be seen across the U.S. as millions defied restrictions and gathered in large crowds, many without masks. As of last night, the U.S. COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 98,000. There are many concerns a second wave of the virus will hit within the next few weeks.
