SC Inmates Send Handcrafted Cards, Other Items to Nursing Home Residents

South Carolina inmates made cards for nursing home residents to help lift their spirits. The South Carolina Department of Corrections and the South Carolina Department on Aging collaborated to create “Operation Spread the Joy.” Hundreds of prisoners sent seniors handmade comfort items such as cards, jewelry, and knitted blankets, hats, and stuffed animals. As of yesterday, 2,000 items were delivered to nursing homes. SCDC Director Bryan Stirling said, “The offenders embraced this project and showed real creativity.”
