Researchers Have Hope for New Possible COVID-19 Treatment

Following disappointing results from hydroxychloroquine treatment tests, a new drug has come onto the scene as a possible coronavirus cure. It’s a chemical compound called famotidine which can be found in a heartburn medication Pepcid. Trials have already begun at Northwell Health, a New York City hospital, on over 150 patients. Kevin Tracey, a former neurosurgeon in charge of Northwell Health’s research, said they kept the trial under wraps for fear of what recently happened with hydroxychloroquine shortages. Findings of the trial will also be kept private for at least the next few weeks. They want to conclude results from the first 391 out of 1,200 patients they hope to eventually have. They will also be testing hydroxychloroquine on another group, and testing both drugs on a third, all against a control group.
