Several States Gradually Reopen Despite Concerns
As the U.S. coronavirus death toll nearly doubles in a week, several states are preparing to reopen. Confirmed cases in the country surpassed 800,000 today with over 43,000 people killed as a result. That’s an 80% increase in deaths from last week. Despite this, multiple southern state governors, including Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and South Carolina, have announced they will begin lifting restrictions. Beaches, theaters, retail stores, gyms, salons and more can expect to reopen as early as this week in most places. But there are major concerns it’s way too soon. The World Health Organization has cautioned a second, and possibly worse, spike in cases and deaths could result. Especially since most states have not met the minimum requirements proposed by President Trump for reopening, including experiencing a consistent drop in cases and hospitals returning to pre-crisis conditions.
