Tornadoes in South Kill At Least 32 People
Yesterday’s deadly tornadoes that tore through the south claimed the lives of at least 32 people. From Texas to South Carolina, the National Weather Service reported at least 40 tornadoes that spanned 1,200 miles. New York even sustained minor damage as the series of storms made their way north. Hundreds of homes and buildings were destroyed and tens of thousands lost power. Crews are working hard to clean up the damage but there’s no projected time for when they’ll finish. Shelters, health care workers and emergency first responders are already completely depleted, overwhelmed, and exhausted due to the pandemic. Now they have to find a way to accommodate hundreds of survivors who are without homes, food, and require medical assistance. But it’s been stressed by state officials that victims will take priority over social distancing orders. They heed caution and personal hygiene, but will help as many people as possible.
