Democratic National Convention Postponed
The Democratic National Convention was pushed back to August 17th yesterday. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders were both consulted prior to the decision. Ultimately, concern for the public’s safety and uncertainty over how long the virus will last is what pushed them to move it. Initially the convention was to be held in mid-July just before the summer Olympics were supposed to take place. Now it will precede the republican convention in Charlotte by only a week. The only state who still refuses to postpone their primary is Wisconsin. A federal judge recently denied a request to have the date pushed from this Tuesday, despite concerns from local and state leaders. He instead agreed to deploy the National Guard to polling places and extended the deadline to request and receive absentee ballots.
