Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison
Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. The 67-year-old former movie mogul was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape last month which was largely based off the testimony of actress Jessica Mann. While Weinstein was acquitted on the more serious charges of predatory sexual assault that carried a life sentence, he still faced between five and 29 years in prison. Judge James Burke decided the length of the sentence. Weinstein’s defense begged for a minimum sentence of five years. They cited his ever growing list of medical issues and previous charitable work as reasons for leniency. They said Weinstein would die in prison if he received more than five years. It’s a statement that has been met with much indifference by supporters of the #MeToo movement. Weinstein still stands a second trial in LA for similar crimes.
