Harvey Weinstein Awaits Sentencing at Rikers Island
Harvey Weinstein is finally being moved to Rikers Island over a week after he was convicted of sexual assault and rape. Immediately after his guilty verdict was read, 67-year-old Weinstein was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after experiencing heart palpitations, chest pain, and high blood pressure. It’s been reported he underwent some sort of heart procedure and is now finally fit enough to be moved to Rikers Island jail while he awaits his sentence hearing. However, it’s believed his attorneys are fighting for Weinstein to be admitted into the Rikers Infirmary for the time being as he continues to recover. Many have expressed concern Weinstein might be receiving special treatment or evading spending any actual time in jail following his verdict. Former City Corrections Commissioner, Martin Horn, has confirmed that the Rikers Infirmary is more of a jail than a hospital. Weinstein’s sentencing is scheduled for March 11th. He faces at least five years in prison.
