Two Honolulu Officers Killed in Shooting
Two Honolulu officers were shot and killed yesterday morning while responding to a 911 call for “help”. When the officers arrived at the house, they found the woman who had called for help stabbed in the leg but alive in the driveway. That’s when the suspect, Jerry Hanel, believed to be in his 60’s, opened fire at them and killed an officer. More officers arrived shortly after when Hanel opened fire again, killing a second officer. By the time more back up arrived, the house had been engulfed in flames. It will take several days to process the scene. Seven other homes were destroyed or damaged by the fire and three people still unaccounted for. This includes Hanel, who law enforcement believe died in the fire but will not stop searching until his remains are recovered. Officers Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama were those reported killed during the shootings.
