Israel Headed for Unprecedented Third Election
Israel is headed for an unprecedented third election in less than a year today. The decision comes after political leaders have failed yet again to break the ongoing deadlock in Israel’s Parliament. The Knesset has 120 members and they’ve yet to elect a leader that can command support from more than 61 people. Benjamin Netanyahu remains the country’s current Prime Minister. At the same time he’s running his campaign, he faces criminal indictment on charges of bribery and fraud and breach of trust in three separate criminal investigations. He’s run Israel’s transitional government for nearly a year and has failed to assemble a functioning coalition after multiple elections.
