Volcano Erupts in New Zealand

Five people are confirmed dead and at least ten are still missing after a volcano suddenly erupted on an island in New Zealand early this morning. Terrifying footage taken by tourists on a nearby boat shows giant columns of smoke billowing out of the volcano. Twenty-three people were successfully evacuated but many are in critical condition. While rescue teams are desperately trying to search for more survivors, it’s very difficult at this time to send emergency crews back to shore as the island is still very unstable. Among those confirmed dead are both locals and tourists. New Zealand police have reported that circumstances look very grim for those still missing as there appears to be no other signs of life on the island. Names of the victims have not been released yet.
