Grace Cox Walters, age 84, of Lumberton, NC died on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Golden Living in Lumberton. She was born in Robeson County, NC on January 13, 1927 to the late Oakley and Audie Burchette Cox. She previously worked in textile manufacturing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oakley and Audie Burchette Cox; her husband, Willis Walters; a grandson, Kenneth Ray Parker, Jr.; a granddaughter, Michelle Lynette Smith; a great-grandson, Jason Michael Simmons; and a son-in-law, Glen E. Wilkins; three sisters, Clara Lee, Myrtle Hardin and Bertha Wilcox; and three brothers, Randolph Cox, Lennon Cox and Marvin Cox. Mrs. Walters is survived by a son, Willis Walters, Jr. and wife Fleda of Lumberton, NC; five daughters, Brenda West and husband, Elwood of Lumberton, NC, Peggy Parker and husband Kenneth of Lumberton, NC, Martha Ivey and husband James of Orrum, NC, Sandra Parker and husband Wendell of Hope Mills, NC and Myra Wilkins and fiance‘, Tom Taylor of Lumberton, NC; a sister, Madeline Carter of Lumberton, NC; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The family said she will surely be missed by her family and friends, but they can find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with family members who have gone on before her. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 8:00 PM at Long Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Broadwell officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 6:30-7:45 PM at Long Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be on Friday evening, June 10, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Broad Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. This will be an informal, casual dress service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joy Group, Long Branch Baptist Church, 8878 NC Highway 72 E, Lumberton, NC 28358.
