David F. Manson, Sr., age 83, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011. Born September 23, 1927 in Edgefield, SC, he was the son of the late Carl Dave and Susan “Susie” Koon Manson. David was married to the late Joycelyn Campbell Manson. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from USC and then worked as a school administrator. He was principal at Woodruff High School, Lamar High School and St. David‘s Academy in Society Hill. He retired as Assistant Principal from B.A. Gary in Darlington. Mr. Manson was a member of the Lamar Civitans and a volunteer at Carolina Hospital Systems for 12 years. He was a member of Lamar United Methodist church where he sang in the choir for many years and was a member of Lamar United Methodist Men, Fellowship Sunday School Class and attended the Men‘s Prayer breakfast. Surviving are two sons, David F. (Marti Watford) Manson, Jr. of Lamar, Todd M. Manson of New Albany, IN, a grandson, David F. Manson, III “Trey” of Columbia, a sister, Fran Weeks of Columbia, and nephews, Karl and Charlie Weeks. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. Memorials may be made to Lamar United Methodist Church, PO Box 555, Lamar, SC 29069. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Sunday, May 1st at Lamar United Methodist Church, with interment following in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home of Lamar.
