Collins Jr, Van Buren

LAKE CITY: Mr. Van Buren Collins, Jr., 73, husband of Sonia Gaskins Collins, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Lake City Community Hospital after an illness. Mr. Collins was born November 7, 1937, in Florence County, a son of the late Van Buren Collins, Sr. and Lizzie Kirby Collins. He was a retired carpenter and attended Matthews Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are: His wife, Sonia G. Collins of Lake City; two nephews, Gordon McCutcheon and his wife, Wendy of Pawleys Island and Tommy McDonald and his wife, Karen of Charleston, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Brenda McDonald of Scranton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kirby Collins. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1941 Savage Road, Suite 200-A, Charleston, SC 29407, or Matthews Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 1249 N. Matthews Road, Lake City, SC 29560. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, 215 E. Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton. Burial will follow in Matthews Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
