South Carolina Record Breaking Voting For 2026 Midterm Election
The amount tops the Palmetto State's previous percentage record for a gubernatorial election, which was recorded at 54.6% in 2002.
South Carolina has officially broken two voter turnout records during the Midterm Elections.
State election officials reported 1,927,488 state residents had cast ballots by 6pm Tuesday. That represents 56% of all registered voters statewide. The amount tops the Palmetto State’s previous percentage record for a gubernatorial election, which was recorded at 54.6% in 2002.
Tuesday also exceeded the record for total votes cast in a governor’s race. The record was set in 2018 when 1,726,527 ballots were counted.
The state’s highest turnout in any general election over the past 30 years was 75% during the 2008 presidential race.
Tuesday’s Midterm Election surpassed 30-year highs for both total ballots cast and percentage of voter participation.
