Dillon Police Officer Honored With First Responder of the Year Award

Upton was shot in the line of duty while attempting to serve a warrant. He was able to make a full recovery and returned back to work.

A Dillon police officer was honored over the weekend.

Lance Cpl. Jordan Upton, of the Dillon Police Department, was honored with this year’s First Responder of the Year Award. He received the award during the annual Patriot ceremony at the Dillon County Courthouse. Upton was recognized for his courage, dedication and service to the community.

On June 18, Upton was shot in the line of duty while attempting to serve a warrant on E. Harrison Street. He was able to make a full recovery and returned back to work to continue to serve and protect the Dillon community. His police chief said the recognition is well deserved.

The event was hosted by the Dillon County South Carolina Veterans of the Year Organization and the ceremony commemorated the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It also honored the first responders who continue to serve.
