Moore, Frederick

Frederick Willard Moore ( U.S. Navy, (Ret.) Commander) , age 92 of Southern Pines, NC passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center. He was born on June 18, 1918 in Watertown, NY to the late Louis W. Moore and Rae Willard Moore. He was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received a Masters in Philology from Harvard University and a Doctorate in French from Yale. He also held a BA from Hobart College in Geneva, NY; and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa. He was a Professor of Emeritus of State University of New York at Albany. His hobbies include his passion for golf, sailing and reading. Dr. Moore also taught Power Squadron. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eleanor W. Moore of Southern Pines, NC. Two daughters: Constance M. Grahn and husband William of Cary, NC and Janet M. Kirby of Durham, NC. Two sons: William E. Moore II and wife Karen of Fairport, NY and Charles R. Moore and wife Beth of North Amity, Maine. He is also survived by: 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 step-grandson and 2 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother William Edward Moore. A private family service with military honors will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at later date. Burial at Brookside Cemetery in Watertown, NY.
