The school is attached to the Pawleys Island Community Church. The church is under investigation after it was discovered that sex offender Warren Perry was allowed to volunteer on the campus. The decision to close also comes after delays with licensing for the upcoming school year.
Church leadership announced the decision to formally end the academy ministry comes as recent events have “severed trust and caused tremendous hurt and confusion” within the community. Church leadership added it believes closing the academy is in the best interest of the community and church.
The church also apologized for the hurt and confusion caused by the recent events. It was said that it is considering other ways to use the academy building in the future.
