CADES: Mrs. Dorothy Hickman “Tootsie” Mathis, 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 23rd, 2o11 in McLeod Hospice House after a long illness. Mrs. Mathis was born in Williamsburg County on September 27th, 1941. She was a daughter of the late Boyd “Boy” Hickman and the late Rainey Parker Hickman and was the widow of the late Thomas M.H. “Boot” Mathis of Cades. Mrs. Mathis attended Floyd‘s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Mathis‘ surviving family includes her children, Debbie Filyaw (Charles), of Cades, Joseph Mathis (Robyn), of Goose Creek, Jerome Mathis (Candace), of Lexington, and Sandy M. McElveen (Scott), of New Zion; her seven grandchildren, Amanda Filyaw, of Cades, Joseph Michael Mathis, Jr., of Maryhand, Adam and Thomas McElveen, of New Zion, and Peyton, Cole, and MacKenzie Mathis, of Lexington; her two great-grandsons, Blake and Liamm Mathis, of Maryhand; and her siblings, David Hickman, Elaine Kauller, Ophelia Hillhouse, France Proffitt, and Lorine Shewmaaer. Mrs. Mathis is preceded in death by her son, James Pressley Hickman. The family of Mrs. Mathis will have visitation from six until eight o‘clock p.m., Friday, February 25th, 2011 in the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Mathis will be held at three o‘clock p.m., Saturday, February 26th, 2011 in Floyd‘s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Floyd‘s Chapel Church Cemetery. Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
