Florida Conducts Second Double Execution In The U.S. This Century

The actions also marked just the second double execution in the U.S. this century and the first since Arkansas executed two inmates in 2017.

Florida executed two convicted murderers Tuesday marking the state’s first double execution since 1964.

The executions occurred after the Supreme Court rejected the pairs separate requests for stays in the planned executions.

Former police officer, 68-year-old James Duckett, was convicted of raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl in 1987. He was executed by lethal injection and pronounced dead shortly after 1pm.

80-year-old Dominick Occhicone was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s parents in 1986. He was also executed by lethal injection Tuesday and was pronounced dead after 6pm. He became the oldest inmate executed in Florida.
