Animal welfare groups push to conduct study on carriage horses in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WFXB) – One of the most iconic features of the historic Holy City might just be carriage horse rides down cobblestone streets, but after a recent video surfaced of a horse collapsing, organizations are raising concerns about the industry.

The Charleston Animal Society and other animal welfare groups want carriage companies in Charleston to agree to a ‘scientific study’ to review the industry’s treatment of horses.
