Myrtle Beach Council Approves Plan To Make Beaches More Accessible

The city's budget to allow hospitality tax funds to back the purchases of four automated beach wheelchair rental lockers.

The Myrtle Beach City Council has approved an initiative to make local beaches more accessible.

Council members passed an ordinance that amends the city’s budget to allow hospitality tax funds to back the purchases of four automated beach wheelchair rental lockers.

The rentals will be available to use for free. City leaders said previous beach wheelchair rentals were too labor-intensive for staff.

Under the new plan, the vendor will maintain the rental system and the wheelchairs. The goal is to expand beach access to those with mobility challenges without adding more staff.
