19 People Hurt In Situation During Atlantic Beach Bike Rally

Due to the number of reported patients, the agency called it a "mass casualty" event. However, all injuries were minor and no weapons were reported.

A situation that unfolded during the Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival left multiple people hurt.

The incident happened around 1am Sunday near a stage that was situated on S. Ocean Boulevard in Atlantic Beach.

Nineteen people were hurt in what Horry County Fire Rescue described as a “stampede incident.” Due to the number of reported patients, the agency called it a “mass casualty” event. However, all injuries were minor and no weapons were reported.

The incident gained negative national attention toward the Memorial Day bike rally. The Interim Town Manager of Atlantic Beach, Titus Leaks, said the incident was “amplified beyond its context.”

Leaks also said that it would have been beneficial for additional context regarding the incident to be explained as many of the injuries were minor.
