Florence Teacher 1 Of 5 Finalists For SC Teacher Of The Year
This marks the first time since 2016 that a Florence County teacher has been a finalist for the award.
An educator at Royall Elementary School in Florence was named one of five finalists for South Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Meagan Johnson teaches kindergarten students with intellectual disabilities in the Florence 1 School District. The state recognition follows her work in developing accessible learning experiences and communication strategies for children with unique needs.
Johnson will receive $10,000 and advance to the next stage of the competition, which involves an interview with a panel of expert judges. The remaining four finalists will be announced at a later date.
The overall winner will act as an ambassador, mentoring and attending speaking engagements while serving as the state spokesperson for over 65,000 educators.
