Florence County Corrections Officer Fired Over Alleged DUI

A Florence County corrections officer was fired Monday after being arrested.

 

Shortly before 3am, a Florence police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driven by Tawanda Coward.

Coward was stopped in a parking lot at the South Park Shopping Center on S. Irby Street after her vehicle was spotted with no headlights on. She then turned wide onto Pamplico Highway and drove over a raised median.

Coward was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and driving in an improper lane. She was released Monday afternoon on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.

Coward refused to take a breathalyzer test and was terminated from her job after the arrest.
