The U.S. sees about 2,000 emergency room visits per year related to pumpkin-carving accidents, and they’re pretty much all in the month of October. That number only includes the people who actually go to the hospital…so the total of pumpkin-carving injuries is much higher.

A study found your thumb and index finger are the prime targets. Roughly 60% of carving-related cuts involve one of them. many experts suggest ditching real knives altogether.
