A Guide to Choosing a Work Appropriate Costume

...five things to keep in mind.

Halloween is one week away. If you’re planning to wear a costume to work, here are five things to keep in mind.

Talk to your manager or HR first.  Especially if this is your first Halloween at your job.  You don’t want to be the one person who didn’t get the memo about not dressing up.

Make sure the costume doesn’t interfere with your job.  If you can’t sit down or walk easily, or if it’s just going to distract you all day, pick something else.

Check your calendar.  If you have Zoom meetings or other work commitments that day, either plan around them, or just don’t dress up.

Bring a change of clothes.  Even if you don’t have any meetings scheduled, something could still come up.  You don’t want to be stuck in a costume dealing with a serious issue.

Use some common sense.  That means nothing potentially offensive.  If there’s any doubt, you’re better off skipping a costume.
