Amazon Agrees To $2.5B Settlement In Antitrust Lawsuit
Amazon will pay $1 billion in civil penalties and $1.5 billion in consumer relief for around 35 million impacted customers.
Amazon has agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement in an antitrust lawsuit.
The Federal Trade Commission filed the lawsuit against the retail giant alleging that it had enrolled millions of consumers in Prime subscriptions without their consent and then made the subscriptions exceedingly difficulty to cancel.
Amazon denied any wrongdoing and called the suit proof that the FTC had “radically departed from its mission of protecting consumers and competition.” However, the company settled the case and agreed to make several changes including clear instructions to deny a prime account as well as an easy way to cancel it.
