Former Pelicans Manager Passes Away At 68

Buddy managed the Pelicans from 2016-2018 and again from 2021-2024.

The former manager of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans has passed away.

Welby Bailey, also known as Buddy, has died at the age of 68.

Across the seven years that he managed the team, Buddy recorded 490 wins, four post-season appearances and the Carolina League title. He also led the team to their College World Series victory in 2016.

Buddy managed the Pelicans from 2016-2018 and again from 2021-2024. His last professional stretch was with the South Bend Cubs.

The Pelicans offered their condolences and said, “his impact on the organization, the city of Myrtle Beach and the game of baseball is immeasurable.”
