Kirven, Katherine Griggs

Katherine Griggs Kirven, 77, of Darlington died Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Mrs. Kirven was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late D.C. Griggs and Elma Gibson Griggs. Mrs. Kirven was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Helen Taylor Sunday School Class. She loved her family and was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as ‘KaKa.’ Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Olin ‘Bobby’ Kirven, Jr. of Darlington; her daughters, Kathy (Mike) Ruff of Chapin, SC and Rachel (Tony) Hopper of Gaffney, SC; her sisters, Sara Ellen (Travis) Gibson, Betty (Vernon) Brown, Diane (Stanley) O’Neal, Brenda (Timmons) Flowers and Judy Mines; her grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, David, Ashlon (Kelly), Bryan, Chad, William (Cheryl) and Leigh; her great grandchildren, Trista, Hannah and Jude; and her sister in law, Katherine Stewart of Lynchburg, SC. Mrs. Kirven was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Bateman, Helen White and Jean Griggs; her brothers, David Earl Griggs and Bobby Griggs; and her granddaughter, Kristin Hopper. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1725 Harry Byrd Highway, Darlington. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2 PM in Swift Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
