Three additional GOP-led states are sending National Guard troops to the nation’s capital.

Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana have joined South Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio to add to President Trump’s “make the capital safe” order.

The president recently deployed 800 troops to Washington D.C. after signing an executive order that declared a “crime emergency” in the area.

The administration has ordered local police to cooperate with federal agents on immigration enforcement, orders that would contradict local laws prohibiting such collaboration.

160 undocumented people have been arrested in the district since the operation began.

The governors of the GOP states are sending their troops in response to a request from the Trump administration. It’s unclear why additional military support is needed.

The additional troops will bring the total to more than 1,100 in the capital.
