Surfside Beach Passes First Reading Of Golf Cart Ordinance

The new proposed rule will allow golf carts with working headlights and tail-lights to operate all night.

The Surfside Beach Town Council passed the first reading of an ordinance regarding golf carts.

Back in May, South Carolina passed a law allowing municipalities to regulate their own golf cart ordinances.

The state’s default rule prohibits the use of golf carts between 8pm and 6am, which is what the town follows now.

However, the new proposed rule will allow golf carts with working headlights and tail-lights to operate all night, year-round.

Those without lights would not be allowed 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise.

The council passed the first reading in a 6-1 vote while adjusting some language in the proposed ordinance.

A second and final vote is expected to be held on August 26.
