Myrtle Beach Resisting Arrest Ordinance Expanded
The ordinance now includes obstructing or delaying police officers performing their duties as resisting arrest.
The Myrtle Beach City Council unanimously passed an ordinance during Tuesday’s meeting.
The amended ordinance expands the definition of resisting arrest. It now includes obstructing or delaying police officers performing their duties as resisting arrest.
The previous ordinance could only be applied after someone was actually arrested. However, it was not specific in defining situational circumstances.
Myrtle Beach police say the change will help them effectively charge individuals who flee or resist during investigations, even before an arrest is made.
