Parks, Sally Barnes

Sally Barnes Parks, 79, of Southern Pines, North Carolina and Crisfield, Maryland, died Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Tara Plantation in Carthage. Born in Pocomoke City, Maryland, on April 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Rome Lankford and Kate Lawson Barnes. Mrs. Parks moved to Crisfield, Maryland, at the age of 9, where she grew up, married, and raised two children. She was the owner/operator of the Kozy Korner Restaurant in Crisfield, Maryland. She is survived by the following family: her daughter, Ann Parks Whitley and husband, Ron, of Pinehurst; her grandson, Joshua Edward Whitley and wife, Jennifer, of Lumberton; her granddaughter, Katie Whitley Barrett and husband, Rob, of Pinehurst; and four great granddaughters, Dean Kathryn Whitley, Charley Ann Whitley, Lawson Ann Barrett, and Caroline Whitley Barrett. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Parks, Jr. (Sonny), and by her son, John Lankford Parks (Lank.) Two sisters, Kathryn Barnes Whittington and Lillian Barnes Ward, and a brother, Robert Barnes, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Parks moved to Southern Pines in June 1997. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter in Pinehurst. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011, at the Village Chapel, Pinehurst, with Dr. Larry Ellis presiding. A second memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield Maryland in later January. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Health Hospice, 150 Applecross Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374.
