Carter, Betty Lou
Betty Lou Blackwell Carter, age 77 of Laurel Hill passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2011 at her home. Betty was born January 24, 1933 in Columbus County, daughter of the late Hosea Blackwell and Emma Alice Martin Blackwell. She was the beloved wife of the late Clarence J. Carter, Sr. Betty dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family and others. She enjoyed nature and truly loved working in her garden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Carter, daughters, Patricia Carter, Linda Faye Norton and Mary C. Norton; brothers, Rozier Blackwell and Buddy Blackwell, a sister, Sadie Blackwell; grandson, Jerry Norton and great granddaughter, Addison Gagnon. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Carl Fosdick. Burial will follow the service in Wright Cemetery. Betty is survived by sons, Clarence J. “CJ” Carter, Jr. of Laurel Hill, Edward Carter and Wife Sanda of Georgetown, SC; daughters, Sarah D. Johnson of Laurel Hill, Carolyn C. Gibson and husband Billy of Laurel Hill, Anita C. Kelly and husband Ed of Dallas, TX; brothers, George Blackwell of Vass, NC, Aldred “Bob” Blackwell of Cerro Gordo, NC; sisters, Melba Trubille of Thomasville, Alice Burns of Fayetteville, Bessie Smith of Charleston, SC, Virginia Cartrette of Clarendon, twenty grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9th at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
