Chantal Makes Landfall Causing Flooding Across Some States
Flash flooding remains a concern in parts of northern North Carolina and Virginia.
Chantal made landfall Sunday becoming the first named storm of this Atlantic hurricane season to hit the U.S..
The system was downgraded to a tropical depression after making landfall in South Carolina as a tropical storm.
The Hurricane Center said it “will continue to produce heavy rainfall across portions of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Monday.
Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with local amounts up to 6 inches is expected and an elevated risk for flash flooding will continue.
Flood watches were posted for parts of south-central and eastern Virginia, southern and eastern Maryland, Delaware, southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania.
Flash flooding remains a concern in parts of northern North Carolina and Virginia. Meanwhile, life-threatening surf and RIP currents are also expected to continue at beaches from northeastern Florida to the mid-Atlantic states.
