James Paul Barbour, 76, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 3, 2011 in Wilmington after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Anschuetz Barbour; two daughters, Catherine B. McLaurin (Michael) of Charlotte and Donna B. Fraley (Vic) of Wilmington; two sisters, Sammy Jean Sutton and Mary Beasley of Erwin; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was born May 3, 1934 in Harnett County, a son of the late Paul and Beatrice Byrd Barbour.For many years he was the district circulation manager for The Charlotte Observer, and was most proud of his service to the United States through his service in the US Army and later with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC and London, England. For many years James and his wife served the disabled veterans through the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made to the Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd., Laurinburg, NC 28352. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. unit 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
