Latta – Doane Epps James, Jr., 73, died January 2, 2011, in the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta, SC is assisting the family. Mr. James was born in Latta, SC, September 3, 1937, the son of the late Mamie Nichols McMillan and Doane Epps James. He was a 1959 graduate of Wofford College with a degee in Psychology. He was an avid supporter of the Wofford Terrier Club where he served on te Board of Directors and was often the Master of Ceremonies at booster meetings. He was a loyal member of the Latta United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader, Delegate to the United Methodist Conference, Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Choir, on the Board of Trustees, and on the Pastor – Parish Committee. He served in the South Caroina National Guard for six years. He was employed as a Field Adjuster for six years by General Adjustment Bureau, and as a Field Claimsman and Claim Superintendent for twenty six years with State Farm Insurance Company. While serving as a Claim Superintendent over the State of South Carolina, he was President of the South Carolina Arson Association and supervised some of the first successful defenses of civil arson cases. He is survived two brothers Jerry M. (Tisha) James of Simpsonville, SC, Marion M. James of Florence, SC, and a step brother, W. W. (Mary) Hodge of Union, SC. Survivors also include two nephews, Kyle M. James of Cambridge, Mass. and Todd M. (Jen) James of Simpsonville, SC.
