Grooms, Rev Martin

Rev. Martin “Howard” Grooms, age 75 of Laurinburg passed to his eternal home on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Howard was born April 26, 1935 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, son of the late Martin Harris Grooms and Verter Grooms. He worked in textiles for Waverly Mills and also Security retiring after many years of service. He served the Lord as a Pastor for many churches including, Seagrove Emanuel, Wallace Emanuel, Eastside Emanuel and Salem Emanuel Holiness Church. Howard was a faithful member of the Huckabee Grove Emanuel Holiness Church. Before his illness, he enjoyed working on lawn mowers, gardening and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Sara Grooms and son David Grooms both of the home in Laurinburg; his God daughter, Tabitha Guinn of Cheraw, SC; a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Grooms; a brother, Henry Thomas Grooms and sisters, Bertha Davis, Kathleen Jacobs and Magdalene Thompson. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2nd at Richard Boles Funeral Service. The family request that memorials be made to the Huckabee Grove Emanuel Holiness Church, P. O. Box 175, Laurel Hill, NC 28351. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Huckabee Grove Emanuel Holiness Church officiated by Pastor Larry Singletary and Pastor Kenneth Blease. Burial will follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park.
