Moving forward, teens can no longer use Instagram live without approval from a parent or guardian.

Meta announced a new set of features that expand teen safety across it’s social media platforms.

The tech giant will roll out updates over the next few months that apply to teen users under the age of 16 across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

Meta’s AI will now flag a potentially explicit image that will be automatically blurred and paired with educational messaging. That setting is on by default and cannot be disabled by users under the age of 16.

Meta is also expanding Instagram’s built-in privacy and content controls feature to its Facebook and Messenger apps.

Children must be at least 13 to create an account on any Meta-owned platform. That is in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
