National Security Adviser Mike Waltz Takes Responsibility For Group Chat
President Trump has down-played the security risks and said no classified material was shared.
U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has taken responsibility for a group chat that leaked war plans to a journalist.
Earlier this week, a group chat was made that included Waltz, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and others as well as ‘The Atlantic’ Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg.
Plans regarding strikes in Yemen, which were conducted hours later, were discussed.
Waltz said, “I take full responsibility. I built the group.” He said another unnamed contact of his was supposed to be there in Goldberg’s place.
Waltz continued, “we’ve got the best technical minds looking at how this happened,” adding that he doesn’t have Goldberg’s number and doesn’t even know him.
President Trump has down-played the security risks and said no classified material was shared. But a bipartisan group has called for an investigation into what several lawmakers have described as a major breach.
