Stokes, Loy

Loy E. Stokes left his family and friends December 28, 2010, to make his final journey. He was born June 3, 1932 in Darlington County, in the town of Oates. Mr. Mr. Stokes had five children, two of his children, a daughter, Frances Davis Floyd of Marietta NC and son Raleigh P. Griggs of Myrtle Beach SC made their final journey before him. He lived his life in Darlington before moving to Myrtle Beach due to illness. He worked as a farmer, and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He served as a Police Officer in Darlington and also worked for the state of SC. Loy worked and retired from Sonoco of Hartsville. His family will miss this very special man. He was a fantastic Dad and the greatest Granddad. He loved his children and adored his grand kids. His favorite time was time with all of his kids. He always had time for his children, his love for his family and the love they had for him will always keep the love of him close to them. He will never be far from them. His life will be celebrated in the knowledge that he goes on a journey to be always singing and smiling. His family will miss him and the love he gave to each of them but will rejoice in his peace. He was a resident at Grandstrand Health Care and a patient of Amedisys Hospice. His family will always be grateful for the love and care he received by both. He is survived by a son James B. Griggs and wife Celia of Murray, KY, daughter, Jeanie Stokes Wilson and Hugh of Beaufort SC, and his daughter Etta Stokes Milhoan and Daniel of Lelia Lake TX and a brother Leon Stokes and wife Judy of Darlington. Also, his special neighbors and family Ricky and Helen Campbell of Darlington.He had 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren. Stokes was preceded in death by his natural parents and his adopted parents J. Henry Stokes and Lila Stokes of Darlington. His Brothers: Major Lloyd, Ernest Lloyd and Harvey Lloyd and a sister Irene Lloyd all preceded him in death. His wife of many years Willie Mae G. Stokes made her final journey in 2006. Funeral services will be conducted by Belk Funeral Home, at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 3, 2011at Black Creek Baptist Church, and burial following in Black Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday, January 2 at Belk Funeral Home.
