The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of recent scams.
One of the scams is a text or email attaching what appears to be a warrant that claims you’re a delinquent on paying property taxes.
Another involves a text indicating that you have unpaid toll road charges, and if you don’t pay it, you will go to jail.
You’re advised to ignore and delete the messages.
Another scam is a call in which someone claims to be an official with the sheriff’s office.
They inform you that you have a warrant out for your arrest for skipping out on jury duty. You’re asked to pay a fine or face jail time.
The scammer may use the same name as an actual deputy on the squad. You’re urged to hang up.
The sheriff’s office does not collect fees or fines for the court system. If there’s a warrant out for your arrest they won’t call you ahead of time.
Officials also advise you to refrain from providing any personal information over the phone or internet to those you don’t know.
