House Republicans Reveal Potential Spending Bill To Avoid Shutdown

The defense spending is slightly higher than the previous year's budget level, but the nondefense spending is significantly less than last year.

House Republicans revealed a new spending bill to avoid a government shutdown.

The 99-page legislation would allow for nearly $892.5 billion in defense spending and around $708 billion in nondefense spending.

The defense spending is slightly higher than the previous year’s budget level, but the nondefense spending is about $13 billion less than last year.

The measure will not include funding requests by individual lawmakers for community projects nor cover the majority of government spending, including Social Security and Medicare.

The bill would keep federal agencies funded through September 30 if approved, but Democrats appear to be opposed to the legislation.

President Trump however, has praised the bill. Congress must act by midnight Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown.
