Firefighters Fighting Wildfires Across North And South Carolina
The Carolina Forest Fire in Horry County has scorched around 2,059 acres and remains 30% contained.
Throughout this week, firefighters have battled over 170 wildfires across North and South Carolina that sparked over the weekend amid dry conditions and strong winds.
In South Carolina alone, more than 175 blazes spread across the state forcing Gov. Henry McMaster to declare a state of emergency.
One of largest fires is the Carolina Forest Fire in Horry County. It has scorched around 2,059 acres and remains 30% contained.
The fire forced many evacuations, but residents have been able to return home. No structures have been burned, but some residences did sustain damage do to smoke and falling ash. No injuries have been reported either.
In N.C., there are multiple wildfires burning across four national forests.
The largest is in Uwharrie National Forest near Charlotte. It’s burned more than 400 acres.
The second biggest is in Polk County scorching 593 acres and is 63% contained.
The storms happening throughout the Carolinas will bring strong wind and may limit the work emergency crews can conduct and could impact the fires.
