Metz, Warren

Warren James Metz, 83, of North Myrtle Beach, died Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Born on September 16, 1927, in Cameron, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Virginia Kittle Metz. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Eble Metz, and his brother, Harry F. Metz, Sr. Warren served with the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a graduate of Lincoln Chiropractic College (IN). He was a volunteer fireman in Rockaway Township, NJ, for many years, and was proud of his exempt status. A hard worker in his successful sales career and on home projects, Warren also enjoyed travel in the U.S. and abroad. Warren relocated to North Myrtle Beach in 1990, after retiring as the original owner of the House of Wines of Marietta (OH). In retirement, he developed a passion for golf and was a member of the Calabash Elks. His greatest achievement was that of being a loving family man and wonderful friend. Warren is survived by his daughter, Deborah Winter of Calabash, NC; his longtime partner, Betty Hase of North Myrtle Beach; 2 nephews, Harry Metz, Jr. (Kris) of Wheeling, WV, and Rick Metz (Chris) of Washington, PA; a niece, Nancy Goodwin Chafin (John) of Cincinnati, OH; and a sister-in-law, Sue Ann Goodwin of Marietta, OH. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at Southeastern Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216 or to the charity of one‘s choice. Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
