Social Security Administration’s Acting Commissioner Steps Down

Michelle King's departure from the agency comes after more than 30-years of service.

The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner has removed herself from the role.

Michelle King’s departure from the agency comes after more than 30-years of service and after she refused to provide the Department of Government Efficiency staffers at the SSA with access to sensitive information.

DOGE overseer Elon Musk requested to access social security recipient information. King’s exit is one of several departures of high-ranking officials concerned about DOGE staffers’ potential unlawful access to private taxpayer information.

The White House has replaced King as acting commission with Leland Dudek, who currently works at the SSA. However, President Trump has nominated Frank Bisignano to officially lead the Social Security Administration.
